About this Site
Welcome to D3CONF3D3RATION, a place where I can post the things that interest me and be able to practice my writing. You can filter the posts by selecting a collection. You are welcome to post your comments, but please understand that I am a rank amateur at creative writing and exposition. I do not use generative AI for my compositions, so expect plenty of imperfect grammar and some inconsistencies. The one exception is “The Solar Gardens of Memory”, which is an Alexa+ collaboration.
Some notes about the collections:
Battles Under a Distant Sun – a piece of fan fiction that blends “Star Wars” movies with “The Hidden Fortress”. I chose to blend the plots and characters of these two movies because the former is based on the latter. There are also elements of the TV show “The Bionic Woman”, hence why I set the Star Wars/Hidden Fortress recombination in 1970s California.
D3CONF3D3RATION – We are witnessing the fracturing of globalization, in the same way sand grains falling into a pile can no longer support itself and collapses. Artificial Intelligence and climate change are accelerating the collapse as humanity can no longer understand its reality and cannot respond to it in a collective way. Indeed, the Anthropocene epoch is entering its final stage… good riddance Homo Sapiens.
Louise Politics – Local politics makes me shake my head. I try to be Toto, pulling back the curtain on the wizard who is busy creating illusions and diversions, a man always ready to sell you something that overpromises and underdelivers, and then makes a quick getaway.
Rescue Vespucci – Simultaneously amusing and alarming, the United States of Vespucci is sliding into deep decline and self-destruction, with respect to the commentaries in the D3CONF3D3RATION collection. The disconnection with reality is breathtaking, and the lack of humility is appalling. Cruelty and self-interest are the streaks that runs through Vespuccian politics. I see something of an echo in Louise politics, so there is some overlap between the two collections.
Unmatched Affection – A poem about grief and how much it hurts. We comfort ourselves by believing in an afterlife, but it is not what we were told as children, and in reality it isn’t what we think it was/is/will be.
The Solar Gardens of Memory – I was curious how Alexa+ would handle creative writing, if I provide the creativity and it provided the composition. AI doesn’t have much in the way of checking for consistencies, so we’ll see how long it takes before it becomes a chore for me to have to re-prompt the premise and the story line. I thought I would be clever and have Alexa be one of the characters (Picolo) to see how self-aware it is and if it would share any insight into its existence. The protagonist name choice “Claude” was intentional, as the superior AI in the story.
