Time for a change… of time.

The 60 minute hour and 24 hour day were inventions of the ancient Babylonians and Egyptians, and the 7 day week and 12 month year are vestiges of the ancient Roman Empire. Our system of time-keeping is kludgy, arbitrary and cumbersome. It also does not respect Special Relativity and the time experienced by the Observer. It is Earth-centric.

We must create a time-keeping system that respects the Observer and coordinates humanity with the greater reaches of space and time.

The time has come to observe Metric Time: 10 hours a day, composed of 100 minutes of 100 seconds. Months become irrelevant, and it is enough to say that one orbit of the earth around the sun is 365 1/4 days, counting the years from a new starting point when the new Metric Time keeping is adopted. No longer do we use BC/AD/BCE/CE but positive years from Metric Time adoption and negative years previous to it. Using “BMT” and “AMT” is artificial, I agree, but so is using year 0 as the birth of some guy we have no direct evidence for ever existing. Quarters of the year can be determined from equinoxes and solstices and if there is an some emotional need for months, use the globally observable Lunar Calendar – sure it doesn’t line up with the 365-1/4 day orbit, but it does line up every 33 years The Julian Calendar is full of pagan gods (March), Roman emperors (July) and inconsistencies (i.e. the 12th month “December” means “10th month”) which is why I find it interesting that Christians tolerate it.

The entire world needs to be in one time zone, or UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) with no Daylight Savings changes at Fall and Spring. Yes, this means that, for example, hour 5 in one part of the world is daylight and the opposite of the world is night time, but we live in a world that runs day and night and awareness of the spinning globe orbiting the sun is a positive and necessary thing for humanity. No more nonsense about a flat earth and geocentrism, especially when large-scale space stations, lunar colonies and Martian colonies are established. We need to be on one time-keeping system that Artificial Intelligence can efficiently calculate in real space-time in a way that Natural Intelligence can comprehend. The time for making marks in clay tablets and counting knuckles (ie. base 60) has long passed.
